Cyber-Safety Cop Comes to Journey for “The Whole Child in the Digital Age” Workshop on Oct. 10!

CyberCopWe are honored to be hosting Deputy Clay Cranford, Orange County’s own Cyber-Safety Cop, at Journey during the upcoming workshop on Oct. 10. Deputy Cranford is currently assigned as the newly created “Child Safety Deputy.”  This position was created to address three important needs in the community.  First, he is a liaison to schools, providing education, safety and police resources.  Secondly, he monitors registered sex offenders that have a history of crimes against children and will engage in other enforcement issues that serve the safety of our community’s children.  Lastly, he administers crime prevention programs throughout the community.

His position was created when school administrators approached him about their concerns regarding the Internet and a website we all know as Instagram. Apparently on different occasions and at different schools, a number of the school administrators had learned that students were addressing other students in a threatening manner on the website.  School Administrators hoped Clay could help them. With his extensive knowledge of the Internet and computers, Clay quickly responded to the matter and developed a Cyber Bullying program for students, teachers, and administrators.  Clay’s presentations focus on the popularity of this website among adolescents and young teens, and the issues of bullying and audience of pedophiles.  Clay taught the educators and parents how to monitor what the students were writing about and what was being shared over the Internet. The Cyber Bullying presentation has been so well received that Clay raised the bar and created and facilitated other presentations, such as, Anti-Bullying, Team Kids, School Active Shooter, and Neighborhood Watch.  With great success, his presentations are presented to large groups of parents and the general public.

Deputy Cranford will be a panelist in the “Social Concerns in a Digital World” discussion to be held on Friday, Oct. 10. Don’t miss signing up!!
